Swimwear Trends for Summer 2025: Miami Swim Week Sets the Tone for a Sizzling Season

Miami Swim Week 2025, held from May 29 to June 2, made waves as the global epicenter of swimwear and resortwear, unveiling a vibrant array of trends that promise to define summer style. From bold metallics to nostalgic silhouettes, this year’s Paraiso Miami Swim Week showcased innovative designs and fresh aesthetics that blend functionality with high fashion. Here’s a deep dive into the standout swimwear trends for Summer 2025, straight from the runways of South Beach.

1. Retro Revival: Swim Shorts and Skorts Make a Comeback

Nostalgia reigned supreme with the return of swim shorts and skorts, offering a refreshing alternative to the itsy-bitsy bikinis of recent years. Brands like Leslie Amon, Montce, and Monday Swimwear leaned into ‘70s-inspired hot pants and skorts, evoking Americana and European summer vibes. These pieces, often paired with matching tops, provide extra coverage while maintaining a chic, retro flair. Perfect for those seeking a blend of comfort and style, this trend is poised to dominate beachside looks.

2. Fiery Hues and Bold Color Palettes

While blues and sunset ombrés remain staples, Summer 2025 is all about making a statement with vibrant colors. Bright red swimwear emerged as a showstopper, with brands like Azulu and Sigal showcasing chili-pepper-embroidered sets and bold color-blocked designs. Butter yellows, pistachio greens, and zesty citrus shades like vibrant orange and lime green also took center stage, complementing a wide range of skin tones and adding a playful pop to beachwear.

3. Cut-Outs and Skin-Baring Silhouettes

Cut-outs continue to evolve, with designers pushing boundaries to create daring yet versatile looks. Megan Thee Stallion’s Hot Girl Summer swimwear line debuted a metallic one-piece with bold torso cut-outs, while brands like Luli Fama and Montce introduced double-strap bikini bottoms and plunging one-pieces that double as bodysuits for summer soirées. These skin-baring designs promise intriguing tan lines and effortless transitions from beach to bar.

4. Shimmer and Shine: Metallics and Sequins

Glitz and glamour took over the runways, with metallic fabrics, holographic prints, and sequined embellishments stealing the spotlight. Azulu’s all-over glitter looks and Chloe Rose’s rhinestone-studded swimsuits cater to those craving a festive, party-ready vibe. For a subtler take, Oséree and Shan incorporated shiny gradient ombrés, evoking serene sunsets while maintaining a futuristic edge. These sparkly styles are ideal for sunset soirées and poolside celebrations.

5. Gingham and Vintage Prints

Gingham emerged as a surprising yet delightful trend, blurring the line between sweet and cool. Designers like Celine and Hunza G modernized this picnic-inspired print with high-waisted bikinis and ruched one-pieces, often adorned with frills and bow details. Iconic prints from Pucci, Missoni, and Burberry also made a comeback, with swirls, chevrons, and checks adding a retro-chic vibe to halter one-pieces and string bikinis.

6. Elevated Cover-Ups: Crochet and Cardigans

Cover-ups got a sophisticated upgrade, moving beyond traditional caftans. Crochet sets from brands like Leslie Amon offered a carefree, boho-chic aesthetic, perfect for transitioning from pool to cabana. Meanwhile, cardigans emerged as an unexpected beachwear staple, with tie-front designs and shell-shaped hardware from Shan and Azulu adding a polished yet relaxed touch. These versatile pieces ensure a pulled-together look, no matter the setting.

7. Animal Prints Roar On

Animal prints, from leopard to snakeskin, remain a swimwear mainstay, embraced by style icons like Kim Kardashian and Hailey Bieber. LaQuan Smith’s Spring/Summer 2025 runway featured slithering snake prints, while Frankies Bikinis and SKIMS championed leopard-spotted sets. These bold patterns, paired with simple silhouettes like string bikinis or sleek one-pieces, ensure a fierce yet approachable beach look.

8. Nautical Refinement

Nautical themes returned with a modern twist, moving away from gimmicky sailor motifs to sleek, elegant designs. Think strategically placed stripes on barely-there bikinis or one-pieces paired with crisp white linen cover-ups. This trend, seen in collections inspired by Prada and Proenza, channels a laid-back yet luxurious vibe, perfect for Saint-Tropez or a rooftop pool party.

9. Accessories Take Center Stage

Summer 2025 swimwear isn’t just about the suits—it’s about how you style them. Pendant necklaces with tassels and charms, as seen in Chanel and Chloé collections, layered over swimsuits for a bohemian touch. Oversized hats, statement heels, and bold earrings also emerged as must-haves, with stylists like Hannah Lewis demonstrating how to balance maximalist accessories with polished swimwear looks.

With over 40 years of connecting designers, buyers, and industry leaders, Miami Swim Week remains the premier platform for swimwear innovation. The SwimLab collaboration with WGSN highlighted emerging designers, while established brands like Luli Fama, Cupshe, and Maaji showcased the diversity of 2025’s trends.
